Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project
Army veteran Sergio Lopez was not so lucky serving in Iraq. An Improvised Explosive Device (IED, commonly known as a roadside bomb) took both his legs off in January 2006. Now in prosthetic legs and a wheelchair, building a dream home for his young family seems too far to realize for Mr. Lopez. But Mr. Lopez and his family were chosen by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to be the recipients of a new specially-adaptive home in Hillside, IL through the Hillside Disabled Veterans Home Project (HDVHP).
To help support the Lopez family, the experts at Consolidated Garage Doors together with LiftMaster, donated their time and products to install a beautiful new Clopay garage door coupled with a LiftMaster Elite Series Garage Door Opener. Like any other American family who uses the garage as the main entrance to the house, the team at Consolidated Garage Doors equipped the new Lopez home with this virtually maintenance-free opener that comes with standard patented Battery Backup system, ensuring that Lopez, his wife and two young daughters will have reliable access to the home if the power goes out.
Folds of Honor
Since 2007, Folds of Honor has provided educational scholarships to the families of America’s fallen and disabled servicemen and women. Major Dan Rooney, a fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, formed the nonprofit organization after seeing the trauma families face after their loved one falls in battle or becomes disabled. As a folded flag, their logo stands for the freedoms we are granted by our servicemen and women and honors the sacrifices of America’s heroes.
Wounded Warrior
For veterans affected mentally and physically in the military actions following September 11th, 2001, the Wounded Warrior Project is an organization committed to providing a bright future. More than 52,000 servicemen and women were affected physically by recent military conflicts, and another 500,000 or more are living with depression, post-traumatic stress disorder or brain trauma. The Wounded Warrior Project empowers these men and women to begin their journey to recovery.
